At our office we like to take a preventative approach when it comes to amalgam fillings. Just like in a thermometer, the mercury in a silver filling expands and contracts with changes in temperature, putting unhealthy strain on the tooth structure. After removal of any active decay in the mouth, we recommend replacing old silver fillings with either composite fillings, porcelain onlays, or crowns. This will protect the tooth from breakage, as well as provide the patient with a healthier, more natural looking smile.

This patient had a poor fittling full lower denture which was very loose.  The patient opted to have two dental implants placed and the denture was retro-fitted to the implants.  Now the denture locks securely in place and the patient is able to eat anything he wants.
